  HNP 5003 Philosophy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita              3 credits

 

This course intends to cover the following areas related to Philosophical teachings anchored to Gita:    Gītā as a confluence of Vedic / upanishadic /yoga /Samkhya philsophies in segments of traditions and periods seen in the following presentations: Inheritance to Gita, Gita as a consolidation, Gita as a text of several dimensions related to philosophy, Dharma and yoga. Gita as the anchor of Popular and Pedantic philosophy: Traditional schools of Vedanta philosophical teachings by Śhankara, Ramānuja, Madhva; Interpretations and presentations by Aurobindo, Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave, Prabhupada, Gnaneshwar, Vivekananda,  Chinmayanada, Mahesh Yogi, S. RadhaKrishnan, Roy Emerson and several others; Key philosophical concpets: spirit of inquiry and practice, Experiential approach, Mystic platform, historical ground reality,  God/s, karma, Guna theory, Reincarnation-Rebirth, Duty, Selfless deeds, Charity, Ritual, Merit and Sin, War and Violence, Devotion, Religious authority, Yoga of diverse formats, Gita critierion of life styles, Yajña, Post life issues, Social accountability, Ethics.
